Dereana Murcia grew up laying in fields of wildflowers, climbing up hay bales, and writing stories – stories which played out in her head and the hours of time spent playing those out, developed an overactive imagination that couldn’t be restrained. Growing up free and slightly shy only allowed the stories in her mind to play out louder; something she never thought made her different.

As she grew into young adulthood, she turned to art to express the stories and attempt to show the world what she saw. But, no matter how many art classes she took or the hours she spent drawing, did her mind have the same liberties as when she would write. Overactive imaginations as a child became wildly imaginative dreams as an adult, which is where Dereana gets most of her story ideas. In the ever more demanding traps of growing up, anxiety crept in, which lead to sleepless nights and then turned into hours of putting the organized alphabet onto paper. Every word transformed into the chapters of her first full-length novel: Seven Rays of the Sun.

Seventh Rays of the Sun reawakened her love for story-telling and bringing life to characters whose voices would otherwise go unheard.

Dereana enjoys reading books as much as she enjoys writing them, singing along to music while exploring the world with her husband, painting and drawing when inspiration hits and the medium is cooperating, binge watching T.V., and cuddling with her five fur children on the couch.
